Life is never dull at Impact Films. In fact, things are more gripping here than a passage from 50 Shades of Grey, although admittedly not quite as erotic (weekends excluded).

Instead of whips, chains, and all that naughty stuff, it’s the wide spectrum of projects we get to work on that gets us all hot and flustered. One day we’ll be promoting a local business, and the next we’ll be on the road documenting a Roller Derby match – it really is that diverse!

But despite the wide variation in opportunities that come our way, we also take pride in our long-term projects that we revisit time-and-time again.

For the last few years we have been filming and promoting a sport that you may not have heard of: Cycle Speedway – not to be confused with Motorcycle Speedway. Up until now it’s always been the latter of the two that gets the attention like an older, better-looking brother.

film_video_production_blog_sheffield_oneRegularly featured on Sky Sports, Motorcycle Speedway involves four riders competing over four laps of an oval circuit. The bikes have no brakes and only one gear, meaning that riders have to adapt by sliding their bikes around the bends of the dirt-covered track. As you can imagine, it’s high octane stuff – hence the appeal.

Cycle Speedway is very similar, only the tracks are smaller and – yes, you guessed it – pedal bikes are used instead of motorbikes. Due to the smaller scale of the tracks, it’s impossible to miss a second of action as everything plays out only feet away from where you’re sat, creating a unique experience for spectators.

Obviously we jumped at the chance quicker than it takes to pass Andy Murray a tissue…

Through filming this up-and-coming sport at events held all around the country, Cycle Speedway is finally beginning to gain recognition in the eyes of the media, and the use of our footage for Sky Sports was a major coup in aiding this. Since then, a London-based agency has now asked us to produce numerous documentary films revolving around the sport. Obviously we jumped at the chance quicker than it takes to pass Andy Murray a tissue, and can’t get wait to get started.

As mentioned at the beginning of this post, there’s always something new and exciting waiting around the corner for us, and so it’s requests like this that keeps us driven, enthusiastic, and remarkably good-looking.

As well as an update on this new, exciting project, come back soon to hear how Impact Films is going to be – quite literally – flying high in the coming months…
